Protocol for Submission of Projects

For scientists from the European Community Member States or Associated States, the Wageningen NMR Centre provides short-term visits within the programme Access to Research Infrastructures, to enable them to carry out research related to the activities of the Centre

Proposals for new projects can be submitted throughout the year and there are no deadlines. The protocol to apply for support is described below.

The procedure to select Users is a two-step process: In the first step, a committee consisting of members of the Local Staff and Executive Board pre screens the (pre)proposals on practicability and, if necessary, advise about improvements of the proposals and adds a local Scientific Contact Person to the project. This process is supervised by the Executive Board.

Final proposals will be worked out in detail by the applicant in co-operation with the Scientific Contact Person, and Coordinator of the Centre. Applications should follow the format as described in the Application Form for Projects.

In the second step, the International Selection Panel (Advisory Committee) advises about all received (final) proposals. By positive advice they will be send out to be certified by the European Commission in Brussels. In case of non-practicability the local committee adds a negative advise to the proposal as send to the Selection Panel. In principle, a high priority is given to new users. At all important decision moments, feedback is given to the applicants.

The whole process takes about 1 to 2 months. Upon acceptance of the proposal in its final (possibly adapted) form, the visiting researcher is notified and asked to give a suitable starting date for the project. This is then finalised by the Scientific Contact Person and Coordinator of the Centre.

Finances for travel and subsistence will be made payable to the visiting researchers only. These include a standardised payment for the travel expenses according to the general rules of the European Commission (normally 1 or 2 return economy tickets), and finances to cover local expenses of maximal 1136 Euro per month for a maximum of three months (90 days). Depending on the type of project, an extension is possible up to 6 months. Reimbursement of subsistence expenses can only be requested for the period of time a User resides in Wageningen. Within the project only research teams conducting their research in the Member States or Associated States are eligible to benefit from access under the activity. Research teams from The Netherlands are not eligible. See the rules for Eligibility of Research Teams.

For visits less than a month, please contact the Administrative Office of the Wageningen NMR Centre for details about the reimbursement.

Unless otherwise agreed, accepted proposals and reports will be published on the web site of the Wageningen NMR Centre.

The Wageningen NMR Centre regularly organises User Meetings, where members of the User Groups will be invited. Some results of previous User Meetings are published in the form of Special Issues.
